Bulgarian tennis players Grigor Dimitrov and Todor Enev won the men's doubles event at the US F2 Futures tennis tournament, taking place in Hollywood, Florida, from January 19 to 25 2009. Dimitrov and Enev champed the final with a straight two-set victory (6-1, 6-2), thus winning the clay tournament, which has a prize money of US$10 000. In the singles event, the win went to Serbia's Nikola Ćirić.

For the first time in Bulgaria's tennis history, the country will host a tournament part of the ATP Challenger Series. It is scheduled for April 18-26 2009, the main sponsor of the event Zagorka brewery told a November 17 2008 news conference in Sofia. The event will have 85 000 euro in prize money and will be co-organised by Levski tennis club in Sofia and Zagorka. Zagorka has been sponsoring tennis tournaments from the Futures Series for the past 13 years in Bulgaria and now the company has decided to take its sponsorship a step further.

Serbian Jelena Jankovic, who regained her position as the world number one tennis player in the WTA rankings earlier in October, grabbed her third WTA trophy in as many weeks by winning the Kremlin Cup final in Moscow against Russia's Vera Zvonareva on October 12 2008. Jankovic won in two sets 6-2, 6-4. Zvonareva had a slow start and quickly lost the first set, but put up a stiffer some resistance in the second set, encouraged by home crowd. Jankovic would not be denied, however, and won her third tournament in a row in one hour and 27 minutes.

The rising star of world tennis, the 17-year-old Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov, will take part in the Mutua Madrileña Masters series in Madrid. Dimitrov will enter the first qualifying round on October 11 2008 with a wild card that he received with the help of Bulgaria's now-retired tennis star Orlin Stanoichev, Dimitrov said at an October 7 2008 news conference in Sofia. The final in the Madrid series is scheduled for October 19.
