A new kennel for stray dogs will be inaugurated on June 30 in Gorni Bogorov. The kennel has a capacity for 400 canines, who currently roam the streets around hospitals, kindergartens and school grounds in the local area, Ekoravnovesie has said, as reported by Dnevnik daily.
Dogs are currently rounded up and treated in the Seslavtsi base, which is also run by Ekoravnovesie. Local municipalities are contemplating the creation of two new kennels by the end of the year, in Mladost and Nadezdha.
According to statistics released from Ekoravnovesie, in 2008 5000 dogs were seized, of which 200 were adopted and 600 killed. The others were castrated, sanitised and returned to the street.
