Carlo Ancelotti appointed as new Chelsea manager
Chelsea Football Club have announced on their website that former AC Milan coach Carlo Ancelotti has been appointed as the new Chelsea manager, after the Italian had agreed to the terms that bind him to the club on a three-year deal, starting on July 1, 2009.
The move had confirmed the rumours that Ancelotti might be bound for Stamford Bridge after reports earlier revealed that he had terminated his obligations with AC Milan.
Ancelotti said as quoted by the BBC: "I have agreed to leave Milan. The decision was by mutual consent. But a move to London is not certain yet."
"In agreement with the club, we have decided to bring forward the expiry of my contract. "This beautiful adventure at Milan is over," he said.
Ancelotti was considered a prime target by Chelsea as his record shows that over a long period, he is able to build teams that challenge, and eventfully, win, the highest prizes domestically and on the European scene.
With that latest signing completed by the Blues, Ancelotti becomes the fifth Chelsea manager inside 21 months following Jose Mourinho, Avram Grant, Luiz Felipe Scolari and Guus Hiddink.
