Boiko Borissov has reportedly personally approached former Bulgarian international and Barcelona star Hristo Stoichkov in a bid to recruit him to the ranks of his party, Citizens for the European Development of Bulgaria (abbreviated as GERB in Bulgarian).

Borissov apparently proposed that Stoichkov consider becoming a GERB candidate, Trud daily reported on Thursday, May 21.

Stoichkov, who was recently named as new coach of Iranian club Abu Moslem, has not expressed any interest in the proposition.

Stoichkov was quoted as saying by Trud daily: "True, I spoke to Boiko Borissov, and President Georgi Parvanov as well as Nadezhda Mihailova, Zhelyu Zhelev, Peter Stoyanov and Daniel Valchev. I have spoken to all my friends in politics. What we discussed, however, is my own business."

On May 13, it was revealed by the Tehran times that Stoichkov was named as the new head coach of Mashhad-based Abu Moslem football club.

"We will sign a two-year contract with him and a Bulgarian assistant will help him with the team," Hossein Ghasemi, the team’s president had said.

At the time, it was reported that the Bulgarian was expected to travel to Mashhad this week to finalise the details regarding his future employment in Iran.
