Wrestling for gold
15:00 Thu 24 Apr 2003

TWELVE world and European champions in wrestling came to Sofia over the weekend to participate in the 41st international Nikola Petrov classic wrestling tournament.

With a total of 150 participants from 15 countries this was the largest tournament in the past 10 years.

The big name in the tournament was the naturalised Bulgarian Armen Nazaryan, who won for the second time the tournament belt. He won it for the first time five years ago, but this time the 27-year-old Armenian-born wrestler beat all his competitors in the 60 kg category and was elected unanimously as the best of the tournament.

A second golden medal for Bulgaria was won by Nikolai Gergov (66 kg).

The Armenian with Swedish citizenship, Ara Abrahamyan (up to 96 kg), was announced the best foreign wrestler of the tournament.
