The Bulgarian arm of German wind power specialist WPD, Viaturen park Dobrudzha 2, announced plans to build a windmill off the village of Sokolovo, near Balchik on the northern coastline, in what would be its third operational wind farm in the country, Dnevnik daily reported.

The wind park will spread on two hectares and will comprise 18 wind turbines, each with an installed capacity of 2.5 MW.

According to company estimates, each rotating blade will cost three million euro and each substation 2.5 million euro. The windmill is slated for completion in three years' time.

The news comes less than a year after government investment agency InvestBulgaria unveiled WPD plans to spend 38.2 million euro on a wind farm near the village of Odurtsi, Dobrich region, with capacity to produce 68 800 MWh a year.

WPD, whose main line of business is construction of alternative energy resources, has built wind mills in Germany, France, Denmark, Sweden, Austria and Croatia. Additionally, the company is also involved in constructing solar and biofuel-powered plans, but it does not intend to build such facilities in Bulgaria because of the lack of suitable conditions.
