The home of FC Nurnberg, the Frankenstadion has been refurbished at a cost of 56 million euro to take its capacity for this tournament over the 40 000 mark.

Built on the site of the Municipal Stadium, which opened in 1928 and housed 50 000 spectators, the newly-named and newly-constructed arena hosted its first event in 1991.

It has since seen its pitch lowered and had the addition of two new stands and received global attention when hosting three matches during the Confederations Cup.

Games being held there include Mexico - Iran (June 11), England - Trinidad & Tobago (June 16), Japan - Croatia (June 18), Ghana - US (June 22) and second round 4 (June 25).

An imposing and impressive structure, particularly when viewed aerially, the Gottlieb-Daimler-Stadion is the home of Bundesliga side VfB Stuttgart.

Housing over 53 000 spectators, the stadium has been modernised at a cost of over 50 million euro in a phased programme over the past two years.

Initially called the Neckarstadion, the arena has been hosting sporting events since 1933 and has been upgraded regularly in the intervening years.

Fixtures: France - Switzerland (June 13), Holland - Ivory Coast (June 16) Spain - Australia (June 22), second round 3 (June 25) third place play-off (July 8).
