16:39 Tue 09 Oct 2007

A blast killed one and slightly injured several other workers at the Arsenal weapons manufacturing plant in the town of Kazanluk, in central Bulgaria, on October 9, Bulgarian National Radio reported.

The explosion was caused by a minor fire accident that happened in one of the plant’s warehouses.

Focus news agency said, quoting the National Medical Co-ordination Centre (NMCC), that three people were gassed after the blast. They were taken to a small hospital on the territory of Arsenal and tests showed the lives of the three were not in danger. The NMCC said its emergency teams that were send immediately to the place of the accident were not allowed in the area initially. Later however, they were given permission to take care of the wounded.

Fire fighters were also sent to the factory.

The victim, whose identity has not been revealed yet, was killed after the roof of the warehouse collapsed and buried him.
