16:52 Fri 03 Aug 2007

The commencement of work on Sofia’s main streets will necessitate major changes to the public transport, and traffic congestion is also expected.

Automobile and public transport routes will be re-organised on Tsar Osvoboditel blvd between Vasil Levski and Evlogi Georgiev blvd, and at the Orlov Bridge and Tsarigradsko Chaussee blvd between Evlogi Georgiev blvd and Peyo Yavorov blvd, according to Focus news agency.

From August 4 2007 until August 9 2007, all vehicles will be denied access in the two directions along Tsar Ocvoboditel blvd between Vasil Levski blvd and Evlogi Georgiev blvd.

Vehicles will not be allowed to pass through the crossroad at Orlov Bridge square from August 6 until August 9.

Repairs will also lead to changes in public transport in the region. Changes will also affect the crossroad between Knyagina Maria Luisa blvd and Todor Alexandrov blvd due to repair works on the subway station 7.

Huge traffic jams already affected Sofia in the past few days due to ongoing repairs throughout the capital.
