STRONG POINTS - SOFIA 2014

·Sofia is the only capital city that is a candidate for these games. The candidature of a country's capital has a lot of advantages when it comes to solving logistical, administrative and security problems.

·Years of political stability and steady economic growth of Bulgaria are going to be complimented by the country becoming a member of the European Union.

·The greater part of the outdoor sport venues are existent and very little additional work is required for them to comply with Olympic standards.

·Both Bansko and Borovetz are ski centers with international recognition and are well known tourist destinations. Investments in their accommodation capacity and infrastructure have been very significant in the last five years.

·The Olympic legacy is going to be very strong in Sofia, because the indoor arenas needed for the games are planned in the most densely populated parts of the city, which lack almost any sport facilities.

·The Government of Bulgaria has undertaken an ambitious program of modernization of the transport infrastructure of the country, which will take place with or without the Games being awarded to Sofia.

·Large infrastructure projects related to the bid will still be completed, including the northern stretch of the Sofia highway belt, Sofia subway extension, Sofia-embracing Lyulin highway and the Struma highway.

·The 2014 bid is one of the best chances for Sofia to improve its infrastructure hosting the Games would give winter tourism and the country as a whole, a strong push.
