Over the weekend, nearly 10 000 Romanian tourists visited the Bulgarian Black Sea coastal resorts.
The high number of visits resulted from the May 1 holiday and the four days off that employees enjoy, Agence France- Presse (AFP) reported.
While Romanians travel to Bulgaria, a number of hotels in Romania are still closed, which gives some indication of the condition of tourism in the country, AFP said.
Since 1990, Romanians see May 1 as the start of the summer tourism season. Yet, most hotels in the country start working in the beginning of June.
Romanians started visiting Bulgarian coastal resorts and developing a trend in 2005. This year, visits became easier due to facilitated border control after the EU accession of the two countries.
The first Romanian tourists that arrived to Albena coastal resort said that they were content with the conditions. “Hundred euro for a three-day stay in a four-star hotel is perfect. Prices in Romania are much higher,” a Romanian tourist said as quoted by AFP.
