The US will grant $3 million this year to Bulgaria's security services. The assistance was negotiated by Interior Ministry chief secretary Boiko Borissov during a visit to Washington. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) director Robert Miller made an unprecedented change to his work schedule to meet Borissov. On Saturday, Borissov had also meetings with FBI deputy director John Pistol.
Miller could not attend the meeting because of appointments in the US senate. However, after hearing from Pistol, and other department heads, of the success of the joint operations with Bulgaria's security services, Miller was impressed and changed his schedule to meet Borissov. The two agreed that any information collected would, at the request by the Bulgarian side, on people with Bulgarian and US citizenship that are being investigated by the services, would be collated and sent to Bulgaria before Borissov's return.
