VOGTS DENIES INFORMATION HE IS TAKING OVER BULGARIA’S FOOTBALL TEAM
14:01 Wed 27 Jun 2007

Berti Vogts, coach of Nigeria’s football team, denied previous reports that he might take over the Bulgarian national team.

Bulgarian media reported on June 26 that Vogt’s representatives contacted Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) to discuss his willingness to coach the national team.

Vogts told BBC that he was not aware of such proposal.

BFU searches for a new coach after Hristo Stoichkov left the position to join the Spanish Celta. It has not commented on the Vogts issue yet.

BBC reported that Stoichkov resigned while the team was experiencing problems and registered poor results in its Euro 2008 qualification matches.

Levski football team coach Stanimir Stoilov accepted to act as temporary coach until someone was found to take the position officially.
