Bulgarian party VMRO put a poster in front of its room in the parliament saying No to Votes for Bulgarian Members of European Parliament (MEPs) Cast from Turkey.
VMRO leader Krasimir Karakachanov said as quoted by Focus news agency that it is unacceptable for MEP voting to take place in Turkey, which is an EU accession candidate. In this way the country could send its lobbies to the European Parliament (EP).
VMRO suggests Bulgarian citizens who have lived in Bulgaria or in a country from the EU less than six months before the elections date to be denied voting rights.
Voting should be obligatory and only Bulgarian citizens and citizens of EU countries should be given voting rights, VMRO said.
No to Turkish Votes campaign starts on February 7. VMRO will spread 50 000 posters and flyers.
MEP elections in Bulgaria are scheduled for mid-May 2007.
