Confirmation of the death sentences of the five Bulgarian nurses in Libya was expected, lawyer Georgi Gatev told Darik Radio.
On December 19 the court in Tripoli once again sentenced the Bulgarians and a Palestinian medic to death on charges of intentional mass HIV infection and causing the death of more than one individual.
Gatev said that the trial was a political process, in which the Bulgarians were used as a tool. A legal decision was possible only in Libya's Supreme Court, Gatev said.
The defence of the Bulgarians can appeal the verdicts before Libya's Supreme Court in a 30-day period.
Lawyer Hary Haralampiev said that the Bulgarian attorneys and their Libyan colleague Osman Bizanti would continue 'fighting for truth.'
Arab expert Vladimir Choukov said that Bulgaria should continue seeking a just verdict, as the nurses were innocent.
All means and allies should be used to change the outcome of the trial, Choukov said. Predictions concerning the end of the trial could not be made yet, said Choukov.
Former lawyer of the nurses Vladimir Sheitanov said that the most predictable thing happened in Libya on December 19.
The situation gave no reason for optimism as the verdicts were predetermined, said Sheitanov. Precious time was lost, during which the Bulgarian medics became weaker both physically and psychologically, said Sheitanov.
