Any investor who intended to develop shipbuilding in Bulgaria was welcome and could expect fair treatment and assistance from the Government in the search for new markets and the solution of administrative problems, Economy Minister Nikolai Vassilev said.
His statement followed a meeting with the trustees in bankruptcy, trade union representatives and MPs of the ruling National Movement Simeon II at Varna Shipyard on Monday.
About 10 investors have shown interest in Varna Shipyard. The deadline for submission of offers is April 2. The shipyard’s minimum price is about 40 million leva. Investors should offer at least 80 per cent of the price in this procedure and in the absence of such offers negotiations with interested investors would continue, Vassilev said.
Information on Varna Shipyard has been published in Lloyd’s List with the help of the Economy Ministry and the two trustees in bankruptcy. This is one of the best ways to advertise the shipyard, according to Vassilev. “There is no shipbuilder who is interested but has not heard of the planned privatisation of Varna Shipyard,” he said.
