US Department of Energy (DOE) will table before European energy commissioner Andris Piebalgs the possibilities for revival of two closed unit of Bulgaria’s Kozloduy nuclear power plant (NPP).
Bulgaria had to shut down four units as a pre-condition for its EU entry. The closure of units three and four in December 2006 dethroned Bulgaria from the position of leading electricity exporter in the region.
Energy security on the Balkans will be another topic of discussion, Economy and Energy Minister Roumen Ovcharov and DOE assistant secretary Karen Harbert said.
Ovcharov and Harbert discussed nuclear energy development, energy effectiveness, energy supply diversification and liberalisation of energy markets.
Ovcharov met representatives of US leading NGO Edison Electric Institute (ĹĹI), the press release said.
He talked to US Department of Commerce and United States Trade and Development Agency (USTDA) representatives about the opportunities for Bulgarian and US business co-operation.
Ovcharov also met Boeing air constructer representatives to discuss the interest of Bulgaria’s national flag carrier to buy Boeing aircraft. The negotiations will continue in Bulgaria soon, the press release said.
Bulgarian representatives accompanying Ovcharov met World Bank (WB) officials. WB offers to create a mechanism for long-term, sustainable funding of investment projects, related to environment preservation in Bulgaria.
