The US would help Bulgaria execute the remaining EU-related reforms in the judiciary and home affairs sphere and impose efficient measures to combat organised crime and corruption, US under secretary of state for global affairs Paula Dobriansky said.
The judicial reforms in Bulgaria were among the subjects discussed during the meeting between Dobriansky and Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev in Washington, 24 Chassa newspaper reported.
Some of the specific measures included training of Bulgarian prosecutors in the US. They would be taught how to fight internet piracy and money laundering, which are relatively new criminal activities for Bulgaria, Velchev said.
At the meeting Dobriansky also said that she would lobby for the the five Bulgarian nurses tried for deliberate HIV infection in Libya. Dobriansky was commissioned personally by US secretary of state Condoleezza Rice to discuss the fate of the Bulgarians during a visit in Libya, which began on July 11, 24 Chassa reported.
The parents of the infected children should receive some compensation, but it should not be at the expense of five innocent nurses, Velchev said.
