A move eastward has always been a long-term defence objective of the US, Jane’s Defence Weekly reported.

The policy is related to the decision of the US to transform its army into a lighter and more mobile one, the report said.

To meet this objective the US had to set up military training bases in suitable places.

“Perhaps just as significantly, the new land, sea and airbases along the Black Sea will provide much improved contingency access for deployments into Central Asia, parts of the Middle East and Southwest Asia,” the report said.

At the same time local armies were going to benefit from US know-how and equipment, the report said.

US soldiers were going to gain more experience from the joint trainings abroad.

Recently US ambassador to Bulgaria John Beyrle said that local businesses were going to benefit from the setting up of foreign military bases. Jane’s Defence Weekly said that US soldiers were going to make full use of the bases and facilities available in the hosting countries.
