Freddy Llerena, former American University football player, decided to sue Bulgarian footballer and coach Hristo Stoichkov, as well as the team and its former investor, demanding five-million dollar compensation.

Llerena’s leg was broken during a match against Stoichkov’s former team of D.C. United in 2003, Washington Post said. According to Llerena, Stoitchov’s tackle caused the injury.

Stoitchkov’s “negligence and reckless misconduct” resulted in the injury, the report said.

The accident caused Llerena “physical and psychological injuries, including a leg disability,” Washington Post said. Llerena said that he never fully recovered.

The player also sues for a five million dollars compensation D.C. United, its former investors, US and Canada’s professional football league Major League Soccer (MLS).

They were also accused of negligence and reckless misconduct for hiring Stoichkiov, said Washington Post.

Stoichkov was awarded European player of the year in 1994 after the World Championship in the US and is now coaching Bulgaria’s national football team, the newspaper said.
