UNSUITABLE CONDITIONS FOR TOURISM IN BULGARIA’S MOUNTAINS
12:06 Tue 26 Dec 2006

Meteorological conditions were unsuitable for winter tourism in Bulgaria’s mountains, Mountain Rescue Services (MRS) said.

Weather in the higher mountain areas was cold, foggy and windy. In Stara Planina Mountain snow was sparse.

Sofia’s nearest ski tracks, in Vitosha Mountain, lacked the conditions needed for skiing, MRS said as quoted by Darik Radio.

A small part of ski installations, Markudjik 1 and several ski lifts, are functioning in Borovets winter resort in Rila Mountain.

Only one ski track and two  ski lifts were opened for tourists in Bansko winter resort in Pirin Mountain. Another ski lift was functioning at nearby ski tracks under Bezbog Peak, near the village of Dobrinishte, Darik said.

In Pamporovo, one of the three biggest ski resorts in Bulgaria, only two tracks are partially suitable for skiing.
