A unified SMS number for donations will be introduced in Bulgaria in May, executive director of the Bulgarian Donors Forum Vessela Gercheva said.
One SMS will cost one lev, VAT not included. The sender will be able to select a charity initiative through dialing a code.
Most of the initiatives will provide support for children in need, environmental preservation and resolution of social issues, Gercheva said.
In 2006, the total volume of donations reached 23 million leva. Nearly four million leva were donated in the form of goods and services.
Nearly half of the charity campaigns took place around Christmas and Easter.
In 2005, charity initiatives collected 18 million leva.
