The biggest British employer organisations suggest job market restrictions for Bulgarian and Romanian migrant workers after the two countries join the EU, Financial Times reported.
Migrant workers from Eastern Europe could cause social problems. In urban areas, increasing number of migrant workers were employed while locals stayed unemployed, David Frost, director-general of the British Chambers of Commerce said.
The catering and hospitality industry opposes letting Bulgarian and Romanian migrant workers to the UK jobs market, Financial Times reported.
UK should pause for a period before opening the labour market to Bulgarian and Romanian workers, the Confederation of British Industry (CBI) director of human resources Susan Anderson said.
Only the agriculture and food processing industries favoured the free access of Bulgarian and Romanian workers, Financial Times said.
UK business welcomed the opportunity to overcome labour shortade by hiring inexpensive labour hand after 10 Central and Eastern European contries joined the EU in 2004. Public figures and politicians said they were now worried migrant workers impeded locals from finding a job.
