The Union of Democratic Forces (UDF) announced it would appeal the results of the municipal elections in Sofia.

The announcement was made by the leader of the party, Plamen Yurukov, on November 5, Bulgarian News Agency (BTA) said.

According to Yurukov, the large number of invalid ballots was problematic. We have to be loyal to our electorate, their votes should not be tampered with, he said.

Yurukov commented that there was a real danger government would have to call for early parliamentary elections because of a lack of reform in the public sector. That was a bomb with a short fuse and the teachers' strike was the first sign, he said. Healthcare was another area which needed reform, Yurukov added.

He said the economic growth in Bulgaria would allow the government one or two years to maintain status quo, but sooner or later these reforms would have to start.
If needed, UDF would work with GERB in a possible new cabinet, Yurukov said.
