TWO MORE WINS IN TWO DAYS AND THIRD PLACE FOR BULGARIA’S VOLLEYBALL TEAM
18:55 Mon 26 Nov 2007 - Elitsa Savova

On November 25 and 26 2007, Bulgaria won over Korea and Australia in the FIVB Volleyball Men’s World Cup 2007 in Japan.

Bulgaria defeated Australia by 3:0, finishing at 25:17, 25:19, 25:13 the games, Focus news agency reported.

Australia coach Russell Borgeaud said that the Bulgarians taught the Australian team a good volleyball lesson. The Bulgarian team had good players and the Australians were not prepared to resist them.

Bulgaria’s coach Martin Stoev said “we played the match almost perfectly” from a tactical point of view. Each point was important because Bulgaria competed with the US for the quota for the Olympic games.

A day earlier, the Bulgarians defeated Korea by 3:0.

With the two wins, Bulgaria managed to keep its third place in the ranking, which gave it the right to go to the Olympic Games in Beijing 2008. The Bulgarians had 12 points out of seven matches. Russia ranked first with 14 points, followed by Brazil with 13.

Bulgaria had four more matches to play, against Tunisia, Russia, Japan and Argentina. On November 27, the Bulgarian volleyball team would play against Tunisia in its eighth match in the tournament. Bulgaria achieved three consecutive victories against Spain, Egypt and Puerto Rico, but suffered two losses against the USA and Brazil.
