TWO BULGARIANS SMUGGLING COUNTERFEIT CURRENCY ARRESTED IN GREECE
09:03 Fri 24 Aug 2007

Greek police arrested two Bulgarian citizens, aged 23 and 24, attempting to transport forged money at the Greek port of Igoumenitsa.

The Bulgarians tried to smuggle 815 bank-notes of 100 euro, Greek newspaper Ethnos reported. The money was hidden in the radiator of the car they drove.

The counterfeit bills, destined for Italy or another EU country, were of high quality.

The arrest of the Bulgarians was a blow to the international forged money smuggling rings, the newspaper said.

The arrest called the attention of Europol, according to the newspaper. Bulgaria was considered a headquarters of a big ring for money smuggling, Ethnos said.
