TRIAL OF BULGARIAN MEDICS SHOWED AIDS IS TABOO IN ISLAMIC WORLD-NEUE ZURCHER ZEITUNG
09:06 Fri 10 Aug 2007

The grim show trial of the six Bulgarian medics sentenced to death for intentional HIV infection in Libya shows that AIDS topic was a taboo in Islamic world, Swiss newspaper Neue Zurcher Zeitung reported.

Libyan leader Muammar Gaddaffi has been critisised by several countries after the release of the medics back to
their home country of Bulgaria, and the pardon they received after their arrival in Bulgaria, the report said as quoted by Focus news agency.

There has been some discontent in Arab countries at the opinion that Libya demonstrated ''subordination'' in its willingness to sign an arms agreement with France.

The Lebanese paper Al-Hayat newspaper focused its criticism on Gadaffi's policy, accusing him of provoking mass scandals instead of improving hygiene conditions in Libya.
