TRIAL OF BULGARIA'S NURSES NEEDS TO BE DISCONTINUED- SHEITANOV
11:17 Tue 05 Sep 2006

The trial of the five Bulgarian nurses charged with intentional HIV infection in Libya needed to be discontinued, former lawyer of the nurses Vladimir Sheitanov told Darik Radio.

According to Sheitanov court procedures were debased and the Libyan lawyer of the Bulgarians Osman Bizanti was working against the interest of his clients.

The court in Tripoli would carry out a session on September 11, during which it would listen to the arguments of the lawyers of the infected children.

During the August 29 sitting prosecutors requested the confirmation of the nurses' death sentences. According to the prosecution the Bulgarians received significant sums from a third party to carry out the mass infection.

The lawyers of the Bulgarians were expected to state their arguments and present evidence during a September 12 sitting, Bulgarian news agency BTA reported.
