The trial former Bulgarian Olympic Committee (BOC) head Ivan Slavkov launched against BBC channel was stopped.
A BBC film revealed Slavkov arranging a bribe. The documentary lead to his removal from the position at the BOC. The Sofia City Prosecution announced on Thursday Slavkov's request for court action against BBS will be ceased, mediapool.bg reported.
The trial will not take place due to the lack of evidence that BBC aimed producing a manipulative piece through the unacceptable use of a hidden camera, prosecution representatives said.
One year ago investigator Angel Aleksandrov said the film was manipulated. According to Bulgarian experts evidence shows film frames were edited and replaced to produce a manipulative movie.
The film authors said their footage is authentic.
An item in the Bulgarian penal code forbids the usage of hidden camera. Due to the clause a Romanian journalist in Bulgaria was sentenced for an attempt to shoot illegal cigarette sale in a duty-free shop.
