Tremors hit Plovdiv team
15:00 Thu 08 Apr 2004 - Boris Dimitrov

THREE earthquakes shook Locomotive Plovdiv, the leader in Group A, in less than a week.

On Friday the stadium of the club crashed down, and on the next day the Black-and-Whites lost 0:3 to Levski, diminishing Locomotive's advance towards second-placed Litex to four points.

Locomotive president Georgi Illiev made an unexpected move, bringing back Eduard Eranossian as head coach. Eranossian was sacked unexpectedly in February although he was the architect of the team that until now, was number one in the Bulgarian championship.

Illiev had first appointed Eranossian's assistant, Ivan Marinov, but after a poor performance and a draw against bottom of the log Botev, club legend and former national trainer Hristo Bonev was appointed as general manager.

Italian coach Enriko Katuzzi also was called in as an adviser. This troika brought no good to Locomotive, leading to Illiev bringing back Eranossian.

In addition, the former chief of the Referee's Commission of the Bulgarian Football Union, Atanas Uzunov, was appointed as chief executive.

In his second debut Edo lost 0:1 against Litex in Lovech in a first leg semi-final Bulgarian Cup after a very suspicious penalty. The team, however, looked better and won applause from the fans of both sides.

"Locomotive is my home team and I agreed immediately to come back. As far as I'm a trainer, that means that the president and I have no disputes. I want to express my compliments for the good work that has been done in my absence. The boys are OK and we're looking forward to win the goals - the Cup of Bulgaria and the Champion's title. "I'm confident that the team has abilities and chances to win a double," Eranossian said.

Levski, one of Locomotive's most serious rivals, also made a move to strengthen its side, appointing Nasko Sirakov as chief executive. Sirakov is considered the architect of the three consecutive titles that the Blues won between 1999 and 2001. Last year he was sacked after accusations that he had been making money out of the transfers in the team. After the defeat in Smolyan, club owner Michael Chorny made a call from Israel to his lawyer in Bulgaria, Todor Batkov. After that, Sirakov was rehabilitated.
