09:00 Mon 14 May 2007

Salaries of Sofia public transportation employees will increase from 400 to 600 leva starting June 1 2007 according to agreement between the municipality and unions.

Overtime will be reduced and drivers will continue receiving nine leva per day for food, according to the agreement.

The agreement was expected to be signed on May 14 2007, mediapool.bg reported.

Deputy Sofia mayor Velizar Stoilov said that Sofia Public Transport Company reserves would provide the money for the salaries and the price of public transport tickets would remain unchanged.

Regardless of the agreement, Sofia is still under the threat of public transport strike on May 15.

Public transport representatives insisted on higher salary increase, tax reduction and better work conditions, mediapool.bg said.
