FROM January - October 2002, 52 people died in road accidents in the Sofia region, including two children. Another 213 were injured in 169 serious accidents.
The statistical data was presented last week by the Traffic Police Department of Sofia's Interior Regional Directorate.
Compared to the same period the last year, this year's accidents have fallen by 17. The number of victims has also fallen.
In most cases the cause of the road accidents was speeding, driving under the influence of alcohol, violations of the right of way and the dangerous behaviour of pedestrians.
