Sofia's city council is to determine the distribution of one million leva, collected for the Sofia budget through tourism taxes. One lev of the money paid by each tourist staying in Sofia hotels is allocated to the city budget, a representative of the city's cultural committee said. According to a proposal, 200 000 leva will be allocated for tourism information and promotion of Sofia as a destination. Sofia's participation in international exhibitions will be financed with 70 000 leva of the sum. The remainder will be used for the creation of advertising materials and tourist maps, mediapool.bg reported.
A tourist information centre will be created close to Kristal restaurant in the centre of Sofia. The project will cost about 250 000 leva. An additional 350 000 leva is needed for infrastructure projects such as the restoration of historical and cultural sites, the creation of snowboard facilities in Vitosha and the renovation of museums.
