TO DEAL WITH CRIME BULGARIA SHOULD CUT OFF ITS FUNDING- BEYRLE
13:31 Fri 01 Jun 2007

The most productive way to counter crime focuses on cutting off funding for criminal groups, US ambassador to Bulgaria John Beyrle said during a meeting with Prosecutor-General Boris Velchev.

Beyrle said that one of the priorities of the US embassy was aiding Bulgaria’s Prosecution.

Such co-operation was impossible for a long time, Beyrle said. Velchev renewed the ties of the prosecution to its external partners, he said.

US and Bulgaria would continue co-operating on the investigation of organised crime and corruption, Beyrle said.

Only few years ago Bulgaria lacked people sentenced for money laundering. This was already changing, he said.

To work efficiently, investigators needed equipment and technical skills, Beyrle said.
