Three films candidate Oscar nominations for Best Foreign Language Film will be screened at Cinemania film festival in Sofia.

The festival will be held between November 2 and 29 2007.

Manoel de Oliveira’s Belle Toujours is Portugal’s nominee for the Oscar awards. The film is considered a continuation of the plot of Luis Buñuel and Jean-Claude Carrière’s Belle de Jour (Beauty of the Day). Michel Piccoli from the Belle de Jour cast develops his character in Oliveira’s film.

Giuseppe Tornatore’ La Sconosciuta (The Unknown) is the Italian competitor for the award. It tells the story of a Ukrainian woman with a shady past, who strives, by all legal and illegal means, to become a baby-sitter at a rich Italian family. Famous Kseniya Rappoport, Michele Placido, Ángela Molina and Claudia Gerini star in the film.

The Unknown won five David di Donatello awards and audience award at the International Film Festival in Moscow.

French nominee, the cartoon Persepolis by Vincent Paronnaud, Marjane Satrapi, is also to be screened at Cinemania. The film criticises the Iranian totalitarian regime. Persepolis was awarded the jury prize at the Cannes Film Festival. Chiara Mastroianni and Catherine Deneuve are the voices of the characters.
