A resolution of the current difficult and unpleasant situation, equally good for Bulgarian education and for Bulgaria, could be and will be found, Prime Minister Sergei Stanishev said.
The Parliament discusses a motion of no-confidence, tabled by the opposition parties because of the crisis in the education system and the teachers’ strike, which has continued for almost a month in the country.
What we witness now was the result of 17 years of reforms, Stanishev said as quoted by Focus news agency.
He said that he felt and understood the pain and anger of the teachers towards their social status and injustice. “Emotionally I understand perfectly the teachers’ motivation to go on strike, but besides emotion, there is reason,” the PM said.
According to him, most of the teachers were aware that a 100 per cent increase in the salaries was impossible.
The Cabinet did not refuse negotiations, but the negotiations had to be held with reason and responsibility, he said.
