Every Bulgarian is owed 162 euro by the world. But, at the same time, every Bulgarian owes 915 euro in domestic and foreign debt. This negative balance is unlikely to improve because debts to Bulgaria are not being repaid. This is according to a report compiled by a special parliamentary committee on the country’s debts, and adopted by Parliament yesterday. MPs approved the setting up of a special body to manage the debt, and to come up with a strategy on the country’s foreign debt.
Currently, Bulgaria is owed about $1.9 billion, 309 million exchangeable roubles, 2155 currency leva and 281 000 British pounds. A rough estimate, which does not take into account that the exchangeable rouble was an artificial payment means created only for the former COMECON, shows that the total amount owed to Bulgaria is more than $2.2 billion.
