The Varna Summer International Music Festival is one of the attractions that every year hosts a series of concerts and performances beginning on June 19. Guests from abroad and local artists gather in the centre of international cultural tourism. It is the oldest music festival in Bulgaria and one of the longest running in Europe.
The diversity of genres features opera, symphony concerts, chamber and choral music, "Classic Rock Hits" and "New Talents". The International Summer Academy will hold workshops for music buffs and noted academics will speak about the arts in the Summer Scientific Meetings series.
World-class foreign soloists, conductors, symphony and chamber orchestras, choirs, opera ensembles, and ballet companies will enthrall Bulgaria's audiences. This year performers will arrive from Leningrad, Odessa, Moscow, Berlin, Hungary, France, the Czech Republic and the Netherlands.
Some of the prestigious names in attendance include Maly Theatre, the National Academic Theatre for Opera and Ballet from Odessa, Ballet of the Hungarian Opera, the Ballet Company of Komische Oper-Berlin, Bolshoi Theatre - Moscow, Picolla Scala-Milano, Gyorgi Ballet, Royal Ballet of Flanders, Royal Swedish Ballet, Leipzig Radio Symphony Orchestra, Leningrad Radio Symphony Orchestra, Prague Radio Symphony Orchestra, Lyon Philharmonic Orchestra, Prague Philharmonic Orchestra, Moscow Philharmonic Orchestra, Czech Philharmonic Orchestra, Dresden Philharmonic Orchestra, Milan's La Scala Chamber Orchestra, Schubert Ensemble, Borodin Quartet, Kamerata Amsterdam and Kamerata Trajektina.

Festival and Congress Center, 8pm. The opening will feature Varna Philharmonic Orchestra. Conductor Stanislav Ushev and soloist Dennis Lee (piano).
The programme includes Pancho Vladigerov (Bulgarian Rhapsody Vardar) and Rachmaninov 's Concerto for piano and orchestra No.2. Music by Dvorak and his Symphony No.9 From the New World.
Sunday, June 20
The concert is held at the Art Gallery, 7.30pm. Symphony Orchestra at the Dobri Hristov National School of Arts (Varna). Conductor Milko Kolarov and narrator Asen Kisimov. Music by Schubert and his Symphony No.8 Unfinished as well as Prokofiev's Peter and the Wolf.
Tuesday, June 22
The Art Gallery will feature a concert at 7.30pm with a performance by Vladimir Kuznetsov (piano), a prizewinner at the first Piano Competition of Russian and Bulgarian music in Varna. The programme features works by Bach-Busoni, M. Ravel, S. Rachmaninov, Pancho Vladigerov.
Wednesday, June 23
