Dutch authorities did not allow Palestinian doctor Ashraf Al-Hadjudj to file a complaint at the UN against Libya after spending 8 years in Libyan prison being convicted in the AIDS trial against him and the Bulgarian nurses, the web site of Dutch Radio Netherlands Worldwide (RNW) announced as quoted by Bulgarian News Agency BTA.
The radio reminded that the doctor and the Bulgarian nurses were released earlier on in 2007 after a diplomatic offencive, mediapool.bg reported.
Ashraf Al-Hadjudj claims the trial against him was unfair and that he was tortured. His lawyer, however, said Dutch authorities advised him not to file a complaint so that relations with Lybia would not worsen, mediapool.bg said. Dutch foreign ministry refused to comment on the issue.
Al-Hadjudj applied for Dutch citizenship but his request was rejected because he already had a Bulgarian passport. His parents lived in the Netherlands since 2005, the radio said.
