During her April 24-25 visit to Kosovo, European Affairs Minister Gergana Grancharova met Kosovo prime minister Hashim Thaci, Kosovo president Fatmir Sejdiu, EU special representative in Kosovo Pieter Feith, and the chief of the UN Mission in Kosovo Joachim Ruecker. She also met the leader of the Serbian Independent Liberal Party in Kosovo, Slobodan Petrovic, and attended the opening of a conference of the Pan-European Union in Prizren. After meeting Grancharova, the chairperson of the Gora Civil Initiatiative Party, Mursel Halili, told Kosovo’s Serbian Radio KIM that they discussed the problems of the Gorani community and how Bulgaria could help resolve them. He said Grancharova had not come intending to talk to the Gorani about the possibility of their becoming a Bulgarian minority. He said that during their discussions, she said that she perceived them as Gorani and not Bulgarians. Grancharova said that she would investigate the scope for Bulgarian business interests in the Gorani territories. She announced that Bulgaria had doubled the number of Gorani students awarded scholarships to study in Bulgarian universities from five to 10.
