TeliaSonera opens office in Bulgaria

Thu, May 15 2008 12:53 CET byElena Koinova 96 Views

Nordic telecommunications operator TeliaSonera AB opened its first office in Sofia, the company said in a statement, quoted by Forbes. The move is part of the company's plan to expand its IP network in Eastern Europe.

"Our Sofia point of presence is a tangible sign of our belief in the Eastern European market," TeliaSonera vice-president Malin Frenning said.

Bulgaria is among the fastest developing economies in the European Union and, naturally, it was in need of good Internet solutions, he added.

A POP is a internet exchange point housing servers, routers, ATM switches and other network hardware. It allows a long distance carrier to make connections into a local network.

TeliaSonera is the entity created after the 2002 merger of Telia of Sweden and Sonera of Finland.
