In an article titled The Cables of Elista, Chess Base reported on the world chess championship match between Vesselin Topalov and Vladimir Kramnik in Elista.
According to Topalov's team, Kramnik used hidden computer cables in his bathroom to ensure the title. Chess Base published photos, showing some of the cables sticking out of the bathroom ceiling.
“Authorities... were keen to hush things up. In fact the Topalov team was put under considerable pressure,“ the report said.
Chess Base reported that the photos submitted by Topalov's manager Silvio Danailov did not undergo any processing. Danailov said that the photos were taken during the official inspection of Kramnik's bathroom.
Danailov said that the team decided to keep silent because of the threats received at the time.
“They had told us that the local police may enter in our house with an official order to check if we have material which could threaten the security of Russia. Sounds crazy, but if you were there you would feel differently. The pressure was huge, and we decide to shut up,” Danailov said as quoted by Chess Base.
