TEACHERS PROTEST IN BULGARIA CONTINUE IN SILENCE
15:21 Thu 20 Sep 2007

Protests of teachers in Bulgaria continue with a day of silence on September 20 2007.

The teachers would assist the classes and present their materials, but only through writing on the black boards, without talking to the students, Focus news agencies reported.

Education Minister Daniel Vulchev’s comment was that he “will also remain silent today.”

The silence day is the latest of a series of preliminary protests, which precede the announcement of an effective strike on September 24, in case the teacher’s demands of a 100 per cent increase of the salaries are not met.

A one-hour protest, prayers for Bulgaria’s education and auto rallies already took place since September 15 2007, Focus news agency said.
