Bulgarian swimmer Petar Stoichev has won a seventh consecutive victory at the FINA World Swimming Marathon Cup in Canada.
Despite bad weather, he managed to cover 34 km in 7:41:21 h, Focus news agency reported. Stoichev competed against 25 of the world's best swimmers.
The other Bulgarian representative in the competition, Tihomir Ivanchev, finished second. He was 48 seconds behind Stoichev and ranked third in the general ranking.
Third was Canadian Simon Tobin, at 7:43:01.
Stoichev said that he felt fantastic and was extremely happy with his victory.
Stoichev and Ivanchev will take part in the last round for the World Cup in Mexico on October 10. They are expected to return to Bulgaria with their coach on August 7.
Soon after that, Stoichev may go on to the UK for a cross-channel swimming contest.
