Prosecutor of the Supreme Prosecutor's Office of Cassation (SPOC) Angel Donchev was arrested on the night of December 19 with a big sum of money on him, Prosecutor General Boris Velchev announced as reported by mediapool.bg.
Donchev was arrested on the accusation of blackmailing another prosecutor, whose name Velchev refused to reveal. According to unofficial information Donchev had requested 20 000 euro from his colleague.
The arrest was carried out in a joint operation of the Chief Directorate for Combating Organised Crime (CDCOC) and the Prosecutor's Office after it had been warned by the blackmailed. An investigation had been started against Donchev, mediapool.bg said.
Angel Donchev was the prosecutor who terminated the case against chiefs of customs Plamen Zhivkov and Margarita Petsanova, in violation of procedural legislation, mediapool.bg said.
Zhvikov and Petsanova had been accused of defrauding the state for an estimated 10 million leva.
The arrest of Donchev was the second case involving the Supreme Prosecutor's Office. Earlier this year, Boyan Toshev had been accused of accepting a bribe of 30 000 euro from Georgi Manasiev, to secure his seat as regional prosecutor in Varna.
