In case EU structural and regional policies succeed in Bulgaria and Romania, the two countries will experience steady economic growth, chairperson of the Party of European Socialists (PES) Martin Schultz said.
Schulz discussed with young socialists in Sofia the future of Europe and Bulgaria as union member.
Bulgaria should compare its economic development to the one of Spain, Schulz said. Spain was a developing country 20 years ago but achieved growth through rational EU fund distribution.
EU should contribute to the fight against poverty and environmental destruction, Schulz said. All countries in the union should show tolerance and solidarity towards the goals and towards each other, he said.
What has been achieved within the union should be reflected in foreign policies as well, Schulz said.
