STUDY DURING HOLIDAYS FOR BULGARIAN STUDENTS IS OPTION - INSPECTORATE
09:12 Thu 25 Oct 2007

One of the variants to make up for study hours lost because of the teachers' strike, which was currently under consideration at the department of Coordination and control of Higher Eduction, was to shorten holidays and have students study those days instead, Milka Kodzhabashieva, director of department of Coordination and control of Higher Education, said on October 24 2007

Kodzhabashieva said the department was looking into a number of variations to make up for lost study time because of the strike. One variation was to group study classes in blocks of three or four lessons. A second option was to reduce the number of holidays. This would only be possible for one day with the winter holidays as it overlapped with Christmas and New Year. It would be possible in the mid-term, spring and easter holidays, Focus news agency quoted her as saying.

Kodzhabashieva said they had not yet considered the option of studying on Saturdays or Sundays.

The exact number of lost study days that would have to be made up for, would be known after the end of the strike, she said.

On October 24, the number of schools closed because of the strike had reduced with 23 compared to the day before, Kodzhabashieva said.
