STRIKE MAY LEAD TO POWER CUTS IN BULGARIA’S CAPITAL
12:57 Fri 27 Apr 2007

Employees of Sofia’s electricity distribution company plan to strike in May in case their working conditions fail improving.

Sofia’s electricity distribution network is under the management of Czech energy company CEZ. CEZ plans to decrease the number of employees and restructure the distribution network.

Representative of the strike committee Denko Roidev said that 82 per cent of the employees received monthly salaries between 401 and 550 leva. The number of employees at the moment is insufficient and their responsibility is big, Roidev said.

In case the demands of the striking workers are not met, they plan to protest through power cuts in the capital. It is still unclear if these power cuts will affect only some institutions or Sofia residents as well.
