STRASBOURG REJECTED BULGARIAN CANDIDATES FOR EUROPEAN COURT OF HUMAN RIGHTS

European Court of Human Rights (ECHR) rejected on October 1 2007 all three Bulgarian candidates for the court in Strasbourg and has demanded a new proposal from Sofia, Dnevnik daily said.

Bulgarian Judiciary needs to fill the place of Snezhana Botoucharova in the ECHR. Botoucharova's mandate ends in October 2007.

Bulgarian candidates for Botoucharova's position were Deputy Justice Minister Margarit Ganev, who left his post especially to be candidate, lawyer Snezhinka Sapoundzjieva and Bulgarian Free University lecturer Momyana Gouneva.

According to ECHR, all three candidates did not meet the criteria set by ECHR. The candidates were rejected by the legal commission of the assembly at the level of biographies. Criteria include moral standards and professionalism, Dnevnik said.
