Hristo Stoichkov has decided to resign from his position as national football team coach, Spanish media reported.
President of the Bulgarian Football Union (BFU) Borislav Mihailov said that BFU accepted Stoichkov’s resignation.
Negative attitudes towards the national team and its condition after several Euro 2008 qualification matches led to Stoichkov’s decision.
Bulgaria failed defeating Albania in its latest Euro qualification. The match that ended in a draw gives the national team little hope of qualifying for the European championship.
National team manager Dimitar Dimitrov also submitted his resignation, Focus news agency reported. Dimitrov said that he was part of the team and felt obliged to leave together with Stoichkov.
